A PLACE CODE · LARS'S HAMLET CODE

A postcard for any place

Type a warp address, or any short text, and it becomes a Hamlet code: a 64-module square with no corner marks, its landmarks on the settlement lattice. Tear it, flip its cells, turn it round; the ruler finds the phase and the code reads back.

How it holds up

The place (16 bytes: world, x, z, moment, a seed) repeats around every 32-block's centre in RS(24,16), so any scrap of side 46 reads it. The text is the town: one shard per 32 × 32 district under an outer RS(4,3) across districts, so one lost district is rebuilt and two are not. Cells are masked by the indexed hash relative to the 32-block, so a scrap unmasks without knowing where it lies; and the window lemma (the maximum rank in any window is unique) gives the phase, so rotation and position come for free.

Postcards · by Lars Rocha · the code is SIHamlet from hamlet.js (the editions site's hamlet code, byte for byte); the law is on cards/hamlet.md.
